Here’s a predictable and depressing list of Ottawa news of what has happened after Doug Ford removed all speed cameras in the city (and province). Thanks to Vision Zero Ottawa for sharing:
- Speeding surges at former camera sites, City of Ottawa data shows. Compliance in 8 school zones has fallen from 87% to only 41%, in just 3 months after speed enforcement removed by premier Ford.
- Speeding on the rise at former traffic camera sites, City data shows. Ottawa Councillor “all I ever heard was constituents asking for the cameras. I never heard anyone asking to take them out”.
- With cameras removed, speeders are back. Ottawa’s chair of the public works committee: with enforcement removed, there has been a massive spike in speeding.
- Driver charged after car flips at Ottawa school. A driver has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after a collision resulted in a car flipping in front of Ottawa school. (video)
- Ottawa crossing guard killed near Ottawa school. Peter Clarke was on duty when he was fatally struck by a driver who has been charged with dangerous operation causing death. (also)
- Baby left with injuries, goes to hospital, after driver hits stroller. 69-year-old woman and 68-year-old man seriously injured. Collision was near an Ottawa school where a speed enforcement camera was removed by premier Ford.
- Ottawa Speed gun parties being held to shame drivers. Given the road’s use as an interprovincial route, residents advocating to have road handed over to the federal government, seeking exemption to provincial speed ban. NOTE: Gatineau (Québec side of the National Capital Region) still has its speed cameras.
- Ottawa speed gun party protests loss of speed cameras. Kind Edward Avenue’s camera led Ottawa violations in 2024. Ottawa Councillor the road is being used “like a racetrack”.
Please keep up the good work. Removal of what I call ‘safety cameras’ was a travesty especially when Ford’s government had the tools to tweak the program to make it fairer and more transparent. They were urged repeatedly to do so but didn’t.

THAT IS SHOWN BY HIS LACK OF INTEREST IN EDUCATION AND HOSPITALS. I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HE TOOK THE SPEED CAMERAS DOWN, AND ALSO WAS MORE INTERESTED IN A “TRUMP LIKE ATTITUDE “ OF BUYING A PLANE(without prior consultation). I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THE CAMERAS SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY RE-INSTALLED. SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE AND DO SOMETHING FOR THE PEOPLE . PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO THE PREMIERS OFFICE
